What's New?
I recently got the news that I received an Honorable Mention in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival songwriting competition. I'm honored to be recognized (out of 600 submissions) along with a stellar group of other singer/songwriters who I greatly respect and admire.
Had a fantastic time as a New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Music Festival in Texas at the end of May. Kerrville is the longest continuously running music festival of its kind in North America and I was incredibly honored to be selected for this songwriting showcase/competition. I shared the stage with 31 wildly talented singer/songwriters (out of 800 submissions!) along with many other beautiful/funny/incredible singer/songwriters into the wee hours of the morning around campfires in the gorgeous hill country of Texas. Still buzzing from the experience. Here's a link to the live performance of one of the songs I played - The Juggler.
Still
having a ball working with John Kurgan (Sting, Stewart Copeland, Stanley Clarke) up in his studio in Somesville, ME on my new CD - due to be released in the fall of 2010. Probably the most positive human spirit I've ever encountered. It's an absolute privilege to be in his presence.
Check out my calendar this summer and come join me at a show. I'd love to see you!!

I love to support worthy causes with music and have been connected with some great organizations lately. Two of them raise funds through an organization called Global Giving. Ragamuffin provides arts therapy for children in Cambodia who are the victims of sex trafficking and the BARKA Foundation brings clean water to villages in Burkina Faso, West Africa. Having spent time in both of these countries, I know first hand that the need is real and have been thrilled to help out with benefit concerts to raise funds and awareness.

I'm looking forward to being part of a compilation CD that MPBN is putting together of their live streamed performances over the last two years - a huge thanks to Lou Morin for making this happen - more details in the coming months on the release date. I was a part of MPBN's live streaming when I opened for Dar Williams in 2008. Click here to listen to my opening set and to Dar's stellar set as well. You can also check out a video clip of my last song of the opening set.

Downeast Magazine writes:
"Combining the playfulness of Mary Chapin Carpenter, the quirkiness of Dar Williams, and the soul of Norah Jones, Tipper creates a sound that is at once melodic and moody, sweet and sultry. Ranging from upeat to achingly emotional, Tipper's melodies and lyrics prove her to be a varied and talented artist and reflect the myriad personal and musical inflences she has experienced in her travels around the world."
Muse’s Muse writes:
With Flanagan's Field, Maine-based pianist/singer/songwriter Ellen Tipper and her band have crafted a shimmering folk/pop hybrid. Tipper favors single notes over big chords, and this less-is-more philosophy makes the whole album sparkle. On this winning effort, Tipper sounds at times wise like Carole King and at others earnest like Sarah MacLachlan. Yet Ellen Tipper comfortably and confidently molds these influences into a style of her own."
Be well and thanks for visiting –
